Behind The Business: David Adams of Artisan Plumbing

Behind every business is a person whose experience, values and dedication help shape the way that business is seen. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph David Adams of Artisan Plumbing, a family-owned plumbing company serving Leesburg, Loudoun County and surrounding Northern Virginia communities. David and Lisa Adams founded Artisan Plumbing in 2006 and today the company provides residential or commercial plumbing services ranging from everyday repairs to installations with 24/7 emergency support. With more than three decades of hands-on plumbing experience, David has built a business centered around reliable service, upfront pricing and quality workmanship

For David’s session, the goal was to create portraits that felt professional, confident and connected to the work he represents. His Artisan Plumbing shirt became part of the visual story, allowing the business itself to remain present in the portrait without making the image feel overly promotional. Paired with a darker studio setting and intentional lighting, the result was polished while still feeling grounded and approachable. When photographing men in business, I love creating images that feel strong and distinguished without losing the personality of the person behind the title.

For service-based businesses especially, a professional portrait can do more than provide an updated headshot. It can put a recognizable face to the business clients are already trusting with their homes, projects and everyday needs. Artisan Plumbing describes its approach around clear pricing, dependable workmanship and treating customers with care — qualities that become even more meaningful when people can connect them with the person behind the company. Professional imagery can help carry that connection digitally across platforms and other places where potential clients may encounter a business for the first time.

It was a pleasure having David in front of the camera and creating portraits that reflect both the professional and the person behind Artisan Plumbing. Sessions like this are also a reminder that portrait photography can be a way to celebrate the people building businesses and serving their communities every day. Thank you, David, for trusting MJLStudios with your portraits.
